Job Opportunity: Policy Adviser – Resilience & Emergencies

23/02/2015

Actionaid are currently looking to appoint a Policy Adviser- Resilience and Emergencies.

With your critical understanding of the underlying causes of all kinds of crises – from natural disasters to conflict to long-term insecurity – you are just the person we are looking for at ActionAid UK.

As a member of our policy team, you will work closely with colleagues in the global South on a portfolio that combines longer-term research on resilience with nimble analysis and advocacy reacting to emergencies.

As part of our human rights based approach, ActionAid supports communities to lead their own response and develop their own coping strategies in response to crises. Your role will be to work in solidarity with these communities to challenge the power structures that cause or exacerbate such situations.

You are committed to ensuring that joint research with communities and colleagues in the global South responds to their priorities and draws on their experience and expertise. You have the patience to develop longer-term projects, taking the time needed to build effective relationships over distance. You enjoy balancing this slower-paced work with reactive work in response to opportunities and emergencies.

You are a natural strategist, able to take advantage of the sense of urgency associated with crises to challenge power and structural inequalities. You can create and take advantage of opportunities to communicate our messages in unusual places and to new audiences. You have an overview of a range of policy areas, including women’s rights, climate change, conflict, financing and inequality, with deeper knowledge in at least one of these areas.

Salary: £39,099 – £40,282 per annum
