LSE’s public-facing blogs – such as the LSE British Politics and Policy blog and LSE Impact Blog  have grown into world-leading digital knowledge exchange platforms for academics, experts and the public. The blogs publish contributions from academics, think tank researchers, politicians and third sector professionals, providing accessible summaries of academic research and collectively reaching over 150,000 readers a week across fifty different countries.

We are seeking a Research Officer who can work with the Social Media Manager and the LSE Blog Editors. The Research Officer will lead on the collection of bibliometric data from a sample of LSE blog posts and their corresponding journal articles, focusing on the effect that blogging has had on the citation rates of the journal articles on which the blog posts are based, using Altmetric Explorer, Google Scholar and similar software.

We are looking for a highly motivated, confident and enthusiastic person who has a familiarity with the latest developments in academic communication, bibliometrics and altmetrics. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of quantitative research methodologies and bibliometric data, and will be able to work with the Blog Editors and Social Media Manager to write up the results into a summary report.

The key tasks for the Research Officer will be:

  • Collecting quantitative bibliometric data on the effect that a sample of LSE blog posts has had on the citation rates of the academic journal articles on which they are based, using Altmetric Explorer, Google Scholar and similar software.
  • Writing up the results into a short summary report to be shared at a launch event in late spring 2017 and to be distributed through social media.
