Age International is looking for a Head of Communications to lead the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of Age International’s positioning and tone of voice.

We want to celebrate and champion older people, whilst also encouraging people in the UK to think about what it might be like to age in poverty in a poorer country.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Lead the Communications Team to develop and implement an integrated communications strategy for Age International.
  2. Work within the senior management team to help shape our policy work, donor & fundraising communication, media, digital & offline publications.
  3. Act as the key communications contact with the Disasters Emergency Committee and other stakeholders, leading on communications about emergencies and coordinating activity across the Age UK network.
  4. Lead the development of Age International’s positioning and tone of voice

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with an eye for a story – who can provide leadership and vision, set direction, inspire and guide the team, and ensure there is a strong strategic focus to all communications.

As well as being a strategic thinker, you will also be someone who is prepared to roll your sleeves up and get stuck into practical tasks.

You will be an excellent writer and editor, with an exceptional knowledge of modern-day communications channels and environments.

You will have a strong understanding of development issues, international affairs, and global ageing trends – as well as insight into different audiences and the issues that they may respond/relate to.

You will hold a strong track record of running successful communication campaigns.

You will have strong listening, persuasion, negotiating and interpersonal skills to build relationships and confidently represent Age International in a range of settings.

You will bring innovative solutions and fresh perspectives.

Additional information

Some international travel will be required in the role, as will be the need to attend events and meetings outside normal working hours.
