LSHTM seeks Technical Communications Officer

13/03/2013

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is seeking a Technical Communications Officer  to work on a full or part time basis to support the Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) Consortium.

The ACT Consortium, coordinated through the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and has partners throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States.  The secretariat and core scientists are based at LSHTM and support 26 projects in 10 countries.

The Consortium’s vision is to support evidence-based policy making and implementation activities so that the delivery and effectiveness of ACTs is optimized.  In order to achieve this, the Consortium is establishing a mechanism, referred to as SCALE (Syntheses, Collaboration, and Analyses for Liaising Evidence effectively).

SCALE will act as a conduit of information between the ACT Consortium, policy makers and programme managers at national and international levels.  Members of the Consortium and core team already interact with members of the research, policy and programme communities. The post holder will have responsibility for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating SCALE-related communications. The overall objectives are to ensure access to the research by a range of stakeholders and enhance the potential for uptake of the research outputs.

The TCO will engage closely with the research work, people, debates and partners and affiliates across the ACT Consortium, and will help ensure that research results are appropriately disseminated in a way relevant to all stakeholders. The TCO will combine strong interpersonal and networking skills with the vision and entrepreneurial ability to take on and improve the ACT Consortium’s current communications strategy which engages with different audiences and finds relevant ways to communicate to these audiences.

The post is available for one year starting March 2013. Salary is on the Professional Support Pathway salary scale 6 from £36,018 to £40,904 per annum inclusive.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year for all staff.  In addition to this there are 6 fixed-date “Director’s Days”.
