Job Opportunity: John Innes Centre seeks Science Communicator

The John Innes Centre is looking for someone who can speak and write with a passion for plant and microbial sciences, to fill a new role of Science Communicator at two of the world’s leading research institutes in these fields.

The John Innes Centre and The Sainsbury Laboratory carry out ground-breaking research which contributes to global food security and human health. The new Science Communicator will be part of a team extending stories of these breakthroughs to our stakeholders, including the public, in a way which captures the imagination and inspires people.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of different methods and techniques for science communication, in writing, online and face-to-face. He/she will also know about methods of evaluation, and be adept at identifying and reporting on objectives. A key part of this role will be working with scientists to identify opportunities for science communication, and putting in plans to identify and manage the effective use of resource.

Candidates are required to be educated to degree level or equivalent in life sciences, have experience of working in a small team with diverse skills and have experience in working with a range of high level stakeholders and advising senior members of staff. Candidates must also have the ability to uphold the standards within the Institute’s Personal Attributes Framework, including Communication, Working Together, Excellence, Respect, Taking Responsibility and Leadership. Salary on appointment will be within the range £30,500 to £37,500 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for an indefinite contract.
