Call for Papers : Private Sector in Health Systems – Satellite Session

Session : Contribution of the Private Sector in Health Systems Resilience and Reform – Stronger together beyond COVID

The private sector has and continues to play an important role in improving access to and the quality of health services, as evidenced by an increase in the proportion of individuals accessing health services through them. Coordination and cooperation between the public and private sectors across multiple health service delivery and access capacities is essential to build resilient and impactful health systems. The challenge of today is how to establish fruitful collaborations between the public and private sector to find complementarities and a common platform for health advancement.

This one-day symposium seeks to gather persons engaged in the private sector in health, present current research in the area and create a dialogue between researchers, international organizations, and policy makers with a goal of moving forward discussion on the role of the private sector in health systems in low- and middle-income countries.

Coordination and cooperation between the public and private sectors across the health system in health financing, service delivery, policy and regulations, and health information systems is essential to build resilient and impactful health systems. This level of collaboration was evident during the pandemic in many African countries in the past two years. The collaboration resulted in well coordinated and efficient mechanisms to maintain service delivery, as well as enhance access to services through virtual platforms. This approach has the potential to bring to the fore transformative innovations that improve the delivery and access of health care, finance the health systems and provide solutions to intractable public health problems.

Therefore, this pre-symposium forum is to bring together global policymakers, healthcare providers, researchers, students, and international organizations with the aim:

1.      To discuss and share findings on private sectors contribution to health systems resilience in a post-pandemic era in the areas of governance, technology, primary care and politics of health in LMICs,

2.      To learn from exemplar LMIC on market facilitation to improve learning in digital transformation, governance, and stewardship.
