Champion humanitarian initiatives that make a real difference.

If you are looking for a rewarding challenge, then the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) could be precisely what you’re looking for. Collectively, their 17,000+ employees in 178 countries globally share a vision of creating a safer, healthier and more prosperous world. While they want to promote the interests of British Citizens, they also have ambitious development and humanitarian objectives, and as such, are in need of Humanitarian Advisors who will play a vital role in humanitarian policy engagement, diplomacy and aid delivery. Whilst the current vacancy is advertised for Bangladesh, reserve candidates from this recruitment will be considered for future vacancies elsewhere – whether in the UK or overseas.

In this three-year fixed-term contract, the appointed candidate will be based in our Bangladesh office, advocating UK humanitarian objectives. This entails establishing relationships and collaborating externally with various humanitarian partners and governments. Internally, they will work with colleagues at all levels, with a focus on senior officials and Ministers. Collaborating with HQ humanitarian policy and research teams, they will facilitate mutual learning, resulting in the development of impactful humanitarian policies and diplomacy. Additionally, they will provide technical advice on the design, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of a wide range of humanitarian programs.

In addition to the main role, the candidate will be expected to allocate 10% of their time to FCDO humanitarian work beyond their immediate team, ensuring diversity in their tasks. Candidates are expected to have significant experience in delivering humanitarian outcomes at an expert level. Their technical competencies will be assessed against the FCDO Humanitarian Technical Competency Framework 2022. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are also required.

Joining FCDO provides a unique opportunity to be part of a supportive community dedicated to professional and personal development. Candidates will have access to ongoing development opportunities, mentorship, and a competitive benefits package, including an overseas allowance covering government-provided accommodation, medical insurance, and other non-taxable allowances.

Candidates who meet the required level at the interview will be placed on a reserve list for 12 months, with the possibility of being offered similar vacancies within this period.
